Staff is excellent and easy to work with

I ended up picking this facility for my Mother because it is very close to where I live. This community has just been fantastic from the time we toured until now. The building itself is clean and well organized. The staff members are excellent and easy to work with. They are always around to get into contact with. I like how they create a very warm and welcoming environment. I’ve also eaten here a few times and the food is good. I would recommend this facility to other families.

Room for improvement

I agree with Left Coaster on everything he/she wrote except for two gripes. The first is the cottages have the microwave above the stove, which is a VERY bad idea for elderly residents who are in danger of serious burns incurred when trying to remove hot materials from above waist-height. The second is the degree of ambient noise at the Grill. Any person with any degree of hearing loss (most elderly persons do have it, whether they admit it or not) cannot understand the speaker because of all the surrounding noise, much of it louder than conversational levels (60dB). Measures for noise mitigation would include sound-baffling on the walls and ceilings in the way of wall hangings and other sound-control materials. I don't think the architect or interior designer knew much about these issues with the elderly. Perhaps the powers that be can consult one of the occupational therapists on site about kitchen-safety measures, and the speech pathologist about noise mitigation in public areas.

Love the care at Spring Mill!

I moved my Aunt with Alzheimer's into this facility in March. I visited most of the facilities in the area, and Spring Mill out shined them all. From my first appointment with Lisa, to the daily updates with Nurse Jean, I always felt like they cared about what was best for my loved one. She is currently in the Personal Care part of the facility and will eventually move into the Memory Care (Cedar Grove) which is one of the biggest reason I chose this place. The place is big enough to have a large dining facility where everyone can eat during the same times, yet still be small enough where everyone knows the names of every resident and staff member. Just setting up her large room during the couple of days before I moved her in, I was able to know most of the residents and staff by their first names. They have a large living room area with a full kitchen and dining room where they do a lot of activities for the residents. They can sign up for weekly trips, and bring in guest entertainment once a week. My Aunt doesn't do the outside activities, but she does participate in the daily activities. The food is very good, and the chef always has two "fancy" entrees to choose from, plus all the "regular" comfort foods that are served everyday such as hamburgers, sandwiches, soups and salads. My aunt usually picks 3 course from the menu, a soup, an entree, and then dessert served with coffee. They let you eat with the resident if you call ahead, and that is fun for my kids and I to stop in and have a meal with her--tons easier than getting her to a restaurant, and she (and my kids) prefer the food (and dessert choices) there. They have special events for whole families such as a Mother's Day Brunch and an Easter Brunch. Honestly though, the best part of Spring Mill is Nurse Jean and Dr. Aaron--I felt my Aunt is finally getting really good medical care. Her medication was all over the place from several different doctors, and now with one doctor, and a nurse that knows her very well, we are finally getting the correct medication adjustments to make her care so much better. She was seen every week at the beginning and now settling in to one doctor's visit a month. She is seen every other day by a physical therapist, and once a week by a psychiatrist. The amazing medical care here is such a relief that I don't have to shuttle her around to all different doctors every week, as these doctors come to her. I know as her condition moves her into the dementia care unit, her care will continue to get better, as it will increase to 1-on-1 care in that unit, and the residents seem very happy and stimulated there. The activities director is always looking for the newest ways to help stimulate those residents, just recently adding music and art therapy to their schedule. Another good thing about Spring Mill is the price--no surprises--all inclusive except for the beauty salon, so we know what our bill is going to be every month. The only thing I wish was better was their laundry service is a little spotty-it is supposed to be twice a week, but one week they didn't do her laundry, and another week they took it but forgot to bring it back. Once I put her name on her laundry basket it got back to the right room, but I think they need to do a better job with that as my Aunt gets very anxious if her clothes don't come back right away. But other than that little things, the more important things they get right here, and I feel my Aunt is very safe.

Why we like Grand Lake Gardens

We have been residents here for six years; moving here from San Francisco to be closer to daughters. We are a very diverse and friendly community with a wide range of activities, both in-house and outside. We have lunch and dinner outings every month; van trips to malls, museums and other places of interest. Our driver takes you shopping at grocery stores, but Trader Joe's Walgreen's , the post office and library and many nice restaurants are within walking distance. Our driver also takes you and picks you up from medical appointments. Our sixth floor dining room with views of the Oakland hills is unmatched! You will be warmly welcomed here!

A Beautiful and Welcoming Community

The Spring Mill Presbyterian Village is a beautiful and welcoming community. The residents are very friendly. The food is good. I just have some general concerns about the level of commitment of the CNA'S. Overall I would recommend the Spring Mill Presbyterian Village to someone and it was a good experience. My overall rating of this property is 4 1/2 stars. It is a very nice community. The value is great.

Life is a One Way Street! - Make the most of it!

Life is a One-Way Street! Straight ahead all the way from conception to receptical, make the most of it for others and yourself - my philosophy! The last stage is currently mine, carrying a philosophy of you only go this way once--enjoy! Presently Redwood Terrace is the way I am traveling. Why you ask? you moved away from friends, relatives and your home of 20 years. Simple: I like people, sharing their experiences and knowledge. This home offers me companionship when needed, and activities that improve my mind and body. More importantly, a loving, trained and congenial staff, ready and willing to help and care for my needs when necessary. During my 6 years residency, the community allowed me to utilize my life experiences and training by helping to make new residents feel welcome by serving on the hospitality committee, offering suggestions for plant maintenance, supporting and enjoying outside adventures that I would not utlize alone. I am glad that I did not miss this, by staying alone in my home or joining and inconveniencing my family. We each need to live doing our thing then get together with others and enjoy them. The other side of this coin is giving something: helping to plan for low maintence green areas, operating a Book Cart to entertain those in the Health Care Center and holiday gifts which were received with hearty laughs and smiles. Volunteering is a Two-Way Street - straight ahead!

The day I walked into Redwood Terraces I knew I was home. The warm, friendly staff went out of their way to make me feel welcome and show me the ropes cheerfully. I observed how attentive and compassionate the staff is to the residents and genuinely care about their well being. I soon learned that the residents are hands down, the BEST residents anywhere. I came into a job where I had some pretty big shoes to fill, but they only showed kindness, patience and love. I am very blessed to be here at Redwood Terraces and honored to work with such fabulous staff and residents.

A great choice!

From our first trip to visit WG we were impressed. The staff is wonderful! Everyone is treated with so much respect. My parents have been living there now 4 months and we know that we made the right decision in choosing WG. We feel that we rest easier now because they are in a safe environment. They are looked after and yet they maintain their independence. The residents of the community are very friendly and involved. We love how everyone waves hellos to you, staff and residents. Would recommend if the patient is able to move around on their own (not wheelchair)

Cleanliness of facility is most liked. Value for the money least liked. Unfortunately they did not provide hospice care so we had to move him. Would recommend if the patient is able to be somewhat remote on their own. My dad was in memory care and it seemed better that he was able to move on his own. Would not really recommend if patient is in a wheel chair.
